Logistics encompasses a large spectrum of professions, such as :
Logistics is a transverse and strategic function within companies. Thanks to the management of the entire supply-chain, it tries to harmonise, synchronise and speed up all the flow movements : the physical flows ( raw materials, components, work-in-progress, finished products, packaging & waste …) as well as non-physical and information flows.
All this requires firstly the ability to design the Supply-Chain along which these physical flows will move, as well as the ability to define and set up the appropriate information systems, and finally to build the necessary facilities (proper installations with relevant management rules) and to ensure their performance levels over time.
Companies process products differently, according to their culture and the techniques they apply. All the various activities (purchasing, material transformation, transport, storage, automatic identification, data interchange … ) are interdependant in technical, chronological and geographical terms.
What is at stake is the optimal coordination of such processes, whether by the industry, the logistics service providers or retailers.
That is what we do here at ISEL !
